Land of Dawn
Features
Play as an adventure that went through great lengths to search for a mythical scroll hidden in the hidden sky temple, but not just any adventurer, an experienced adventurer with agile movements that allows you to wall climb, wall run, and more importantly, grapple your way through any obstacles that is blocking your way! Not only that, you may use the Time Stone which is also one of the great treasures that could be found along the way of the hidden temple and use it to retrieve the mythical scroll more easily.
Development Summary
Looking at various tutorials on Youtube teaching on how to create different player mechanics from wall climbing, wall running, grappling and so on, I wanted to create a game where the level utilizes all these mechanics and require players to parkour through a series of obstacles. With that, I then came out with a more intense settings and background to enhance the thrill of players while playing the game.
Roles and Responsibilities
Project Type: Individual
Game Design
Responsible for coming out with the main concept of the game and ensure that it is engaging and fun for players to play and experience.
Level Design
As the game feature lots of parkour mechanics, I ensure to design the level so that all of the mechanics would be utilized to its maximum. To further enhance the experience, the visuals were also an important aspect where I used assets found in Unreal's marketplace to decorate the level thoroughly
Blueprint Coding
Responsible for coding all player mechanics and features in the game using Blueprints in Unreal Engine, mainly by following tutorials on Youtube
Challenges encountered and How I solved them
Limited Unreal Knowledge
-
This is only the second game that I have created with Unreal Engine, not only that, I am only 2 months into using Unreal Engine when developing this project. With such limited experience, I was still unfamiliar with a lot of the basics, and don't even mention about blueprints even if it is designed to be more user friendly
-
Similar to my very first game made with Unreal Engine, which is The Labyrinth Box, I designed the game around what I know is achievable but still to ensure to make it fun. With that, as I am already aware of all of the tutorials available ever since the previous project, I then just put them together to make a parkour-like game which is how Land of Dawn has came to be today.
